Here’s a Friday quiz for you. What is this?
A: Its the load-cell for the hybrid rocket motor. There are sensors mounted all the way round so that you can measure if the rocket is burning evenly. The sensors are made of wire which stretches under load, changing it’s resistance - it’s the change in resistance which is measured and converted into a reading for the thrust. There are also sensors which are not under load but which still give control readings - these can be deducted from the other results to allow for any effects of heat etc
